Tanner Houck (3-3) pitched four shutout innings of relief for the Red Sox after Seattle battered starter Rich Hill for a 4-0 lead in the first two innings.

Seattle lost for the third time in four games, falling to 3-4 on a long road trip that includes three games in Boston.

As the Mariners chased Hill, Ty France added an RBI double in the second. Houck (3-3) came out of the bullpen to shut down the Mariners over the next four innings, striking out six batters while allowing only one hit and one walk.

After Alex Verdugo’s leadoff double, Seattle rookie George Kirby (0-1) was removed from the game.

Despite not getting his first win in the majors, Kirby was held responsible for the loss after Story looped a single into centre off Moore’s glove, and Verdugo scored when Julio Rodrguez’s throw sailed past third and bounced over the wall outside the Seattle dugout. Story advanced to second on a throwing error, swiped third, and scored easily on Bradley’s double high off the Monster to give Boston a 6-4 lead.

In the seventh inning, Seattle reliever Wyatt Mills walked Bobby Dalbec with the bases loaded, then hit Christian Vázquez with a pitch, allowing Boston to score its ninth run in a row. On six pitches, Danny Young walked Bradley, allowing Story to jog home and score his fourth run.

With a two-run homer to centre in the second, Story sliced Seattle’s early advantage in half, then knotted it in the third with another two-run drive that cleared the Green Monster and made it all the way out of Fenway Park. He then hooked up with Young in the eight, crossing the Monster and landing on Landsdowne Street. End of the Game, the Result was Red Sox Beat Mariners 12-6.

Story’s 19th multihomer game in his career.

Rodrguez hit his third solo home run in the ninth inning for Seattle.
