Scientists from Poland claim to have found the only known instance of an embalmed pregnant Egyptian mother. Researchers from the Warsaw Museum Project made the discovery, which was published in the Journal of Archaeological Science on Thursday.
The project, which began in 2015, uses technology to inspect artefacts on display at the National Museum in Warsaw. Originally believed to be a male priest, the mother was discovered to be a woman in the latter stages of pregnancy through scans.

According to project experts, the remains are most likely those of a high-status woman who passed away in the first century BC and was between the ages of 20 and 30.
